In March 1964, a group of people who loved the Lord Jesus gathered together in Richard Merkle's Warminster home to pray about starting a ministry for God's glory in the Warminster area..
Their purpose is stated in Article II of our Church Constitution:
"The purpose of this church shall be to work in accordance with the teachings of God's Word, for the spreading of the Gospel to the ends of the earth, for the salvation of souls, and for the building up of the children of God."
Their procedure is highlighted in our Church Motto: "Preach the Word" - 2 Timothy 4:2
The pastors called of God to this ministry have been three:
Rev. Frank R. Kratz 1965-67
Rev. Robert J. Roper 1967-81
Rev. Albert W. Mitchell 1981 --
The Lord continues to use this local church to include people (perhaps like you!!) who enjoy personal attention, social interaction and opportunities to grow spiritually ... people whom large churches may overlook.
Our church is in this community "for the perfecting of saints (people who trust Jesus as Savior) for the work of the ministry" (Ephesians 4:12).
The home Prayer Meeting soon grew into a Wednesday night Bible Study on March 11, 1964, as Rev. Frank Kratz, the Youth Director of Lehigh Baptist Church, was asked to assist.
In the fall of 1964, 1500 invitations were delivered door-to-door by teens from Lehigh Baptist Church announcing the first Church Service in the Community Room of Hatboro Federal Savings bank on the corner of Street and York Roads.
October 4, 1964 was Opening Day - with 29 people in Sunday School, 68 at Morning Worship and 31 attending Evening Service.
As the congregation grew spiritually and numerically, a Special Meeting was held on June 9, 1966 to decide on the purchase of 9 acres of land at $3,250 per acre owned by the Zoller Family on Norristown Road. Applilcation to membership in the Conservative Baptist Association of Pennsylvania was accepted, and the church was incorporated with a Charter Membership of 45 believers.
On May 25, 1969, ground was broken for the construction of a 36' x 80' building at 709 Norristown Road. Many people of the congregation worked throughout the fall and winter months to finish the building erected by professional contractor Worthing Construction Co.
The Building Committee reported after 43 meetings: "We were not seeking an ornamental church, but a building, a lighthouse where the Word would be proclaimed and the Lord Jesus held up high where He would draw people unto Himself."
In April 1970 the first Church Service was held in the new building on Easter Sunday, with Dr. Clarence E. Mason, Jr. (Dean of Philadelphia College of Bible) delivering the dedicatory message.
10th Anniversary Celebration 1975
During the years since, by God's grace and faithfulness, many people have been blessed and encouraged,
* have formed friendships that will last into eternity,
* have trusted Jesus as Savior,
*have received hope and strength and grown spiritually through Bible teaching and preaching,
*have been offered Bible teaching, recreation and loving Christlike care for their children,
*have prayed for and with one another,
*have prayed for spiritual, physical, financial and emotioal needs of others,
*have developed their spiritual gifts by responding to opportuntiies to serve (their talents and abilities perhaps would have been overlooked in larger churches),
*have prayed for, helped support and been blessed by personal visits by Missionaries,
*and have grown as a community of people within the strong bond of Jesus' Love.
In recent times, fewer people have attended our Sunday 6 PM Service and Wednesday Evening Prayer Meeting - and, sadly, these ministries have been suspended.
For good?
Hopefully not!
We are here to serve your spiritual needs!
Is the Lord leading you to worship, to share your spiritual gifts, to become part of a church not limitied by set "programs" - but offering a place where people can grow in Christ, pray and worship together ... be instructed in applying God's Word to everyday life ... and reach others with the Gospel in the Warminster area?
Here's a friendly invitation to visit this Sunday!
